The distance learning course "Französisch Grundkurs" at ILS is aimed at anyone who doesn't speak French yet. You learn to speak, read and write the language. At the end you reach language level A2 and acquire basic knowledge of colloquial French. This allows you to express yourself well and correctly in everyday situations.
The core of the course is an audio course with 14 lessons. It covers pronunciation and spelling of French, conversations and texts from everyday situations, grammatical explanations with exercises, and cultural aspects. The dialogues are spoken by French people in their native language. This trains your ear and you automatically join in speaking.
The materials include 2 study booklets, the audio material via an app, and a textbook with an alphabetical vocabulary list. In the textbook you can read along with the dialogues. It also contains detailed grammar notes and many exercises. You can find the solutions in the appendix. You receive the first documents digitally and also in print. After that you can switch to fully digital at any time at no extra cost.
The course can be started at any time and lasts 9 months with about 8 hours per week. You can extend it free of charge by 6 months. It can also be completed faster. Your study advisor will customize your study plan individually; the total course fee remains unchanged. You can test the course free of charge for four weeks. That is a 14-day statutory right of withdrawal plus 2 weeks of voluntary additional service from ILS.
You don't learn alone. In the online study center you will find information, chats, forums, and your digital flashcards. Distance learning teachers correct your assignments and give you answers, tips, and advice. The advisor team is available for organizational questions. In addition, there is KILEA, ILS's personal AI learning companion. It answers your learning questions in real time and helps you check your knowledge.
There are no prerequisites for participation. Technically, you need the ability to record audio, internet access, a multimedia PC or laptop with Windows, and a current browser. ILS recommends combining the ILS app on your smartphone with a PC, laptop, or tablet.
Upon completion, you will receive the ILS certificate. The course has been reviewed and officially approved by the Staatliche Zentralstelle für Fernunterricht in Cologne under the number 2112625.
