Basic information

The Spanish distance learning program at the University of Leipzig is aimed at anyone who wants to learn Spanish flexibly in terms of time and location. You work from the start with current online materials about the Spanish-speaking world. The Academic Continuing Education department supports you with all questions regarding requirements, structure, study goals, costs, and enrollment.

The program consists of eight consecutive modules. Each module involves 100 hours of work. The course schedule allows you to study either one or two modules per semester. How far you go is up to you.

The eight modules prepare you for language levels A1 to B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference. Thanks to the modular structure, you choose which language level you want to achieve.

Learning takes place independently and in a virtual course room. The lessons are clearly structured according to the principle of Discover, Practice, Apply. Your tutors give you regular feedback. In addition, there are face-to-face sessions, cooperative tasks in the learning group, and personal consultations via Skype or telephone.

To get started, you don't need to provide any language skills and you start directly with the first module. If you have prior knowledge, you can start with a higher module. To do so, you submit a language certificate when enrolling or take the online placement test.

Enrollment is done via the online enrollment portal AlmaWeb. The application deadline is September 15 for the winter semester and March 15 for the summer semester. In 2012, the Spanish distance learning program received the European Language Label. You can get a first impression of the virtual course room in the trial course on the Moodle learning platform.
