The IHK certificate course qualifies you to identify the relevant data protection issues and IT security aspects for your company. You learn to find suitable solutions for this. The focus is on the expertise required for the role of data protection officer.
The course teaches you legal, technical, and organizational knowledge. This allows you to independently implement the requirements of the Federal Data Protection Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation. You directly transfer your knowledge to operational practice.
The material is divided into five parts. It covers the basics of data protection, data protection law, and the organization of data protection and data security. This is complemented by IT security including technical-organizational data protection, as well as practical tips for starting as a data protection officer.
The course starts on 09/16/2026 and ends on 12/02/2026. Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Each session consists of three teaching units with a 15-minute break, totaling 55 teaching units.
The course takes place entirely live online. The provider recommends attending at least 80 percent of the sessions live. You can unlock up to 30 percent of the sessions as recordings. You make the selection within the course itself. The course cannot be used as a self-study product.
The course is designed across industries and is aimed at small, medium, and large companies. It addresses future or already appointed internal and external data protection officers, as well as employees from business and non-profit organizations, specialists and managers, and works councils.
At the end, you take a final test. If you pass, you will receive the certificate from IHK Bildungszentrum Halle-Dessau GmbH. As an annual refresher training, the provider recommends the seminar GDPR Update for Data Protection Officers afterwards.
