About this online course

Basic information

In the Public Relations course, you learn public relations from the ground up. You work through the strategic foundations of PR and learn how press releases that actually get read are structured. Social media, customer magazines, and internal communication are also part of it.

The course is 100 percent online. The video- and script-based learning content is available around the clock, printed study materials are available on request. Virtual meetings take place via online meeting. You also complete exams and practical workshops in the Learning Management System.

You put together your content from a total of 18 modules, you take at least eight of them. The two compulsory modules "PR campaigns" and "Press releases" are a fixed component. At least one practical workshop is included. If you want, you can also choose modules from the field of journalism.

The standard course duration is six months. You can extend it to twelve months free of charge or shorten it flexibly. The academy calculates three to six hours per week. The course is a part-time distance learning course according to the Distance Learning Protection Act.

The course is aimed at beginners in communication and journalists switching to PR. For admission, you need a high school diploma or a vocational school degree with three years of professional experience. Five years of professional experience in the media sector are also sufficient. An ongoing traineeship also works.

Each learning module ends with an online exam. At the end, you complete a final project, for example a PR concept or a PR campaign. Each work is corrected and evaluated by a lecturer. You receive a certificate with your grades and a certificate of completion.

From my perspective, the viewpoint is the real special feature. The training is designed from the perspective of a journalism school. So you also learn how editorial offices work and think. The course is state-approved by the ZFU, the academy is an approved provider according to AZAV.
