The "Usability Engineering Methods" course at UIX Academy lasts three days, each from 09:00 to 17:00. It provides you with in-depth knowledge and practice-oriented methods of usability engineering. Groups are limited to a maximum of twelve participants.
On the first day, it's all about the fundamentals. You learn key terms such as usability, UX, and human-centered design. You understand how usability engineering is embedded in agile development processes. The focus is on methods for user and requirements analysis, e.g., interviews, personas, and scenarios. Together with your project group, you start a practice-oriented course assignment.
The second day revolves around conception and prototype creation. You develop initial conceptual solutions and work with user journeys, wireframes, and low-fidelity prototypes. You continue working iteratively on a clickable prototype. Accessibility and UX heuristics according to Nielsen flow directly into your design.
On the third day, you test, evaluate, and present. You learn about various testing methods, from classic usability tests to AI-based remote tools. With your group, you conduct a mini-test and optimize the solution based on real user feedback. The conclusion is a presentation of the project including the usability process and learnings.
For collaboration and the course assignment, Miro, Whimsical, and Google Drive are used. In the testing and analysis part, you work with Maze, PlaybookUX, and Lookback. AI-supported evaluation can accelerate the analysis of feedback and insights.
The course is aimed at graphic designers, UX/UI designers, usability engineers, frontend developers, and product owners. The content is based on established best practices and current scientific findings. Role models include subject matter experts such as Rolf Molich, Jakob Nielsen, Jeff Sauro, and Caroline Jarrett. Upon completion, you receive "Usability Engineering Methods"; the certificate is awarded on the third day.
You can attend the course in person in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, or Stuttgart. All currently advertised dates are held as live online. The course language is German; your head trainer is Luigi Bucchino.
