The "UX Basic Training" from the Nielsen Norman Group gives you a thorough overview of User Experience and its many building blocks. You learn which UX activities are most important and how they are used in every project phase. Technical terms and jargon are demystified so you can see how the individual methods fit together.
In terms of content, you start with the UX philosophy and the right mindset. You learn why UX is a worthwhile investment for companies. Then it's about the impact on your organization: assessing UX maturity, promoting UX internally, and advocating for iterative design.
The largest part revolves around the UX design cycle. You get to know research methods such as interviews, usability tests, and analytics. You distinguish between attitudinal and behavioral methods and practice heuristic evaluations. Results such as personas and journey maps are also covered.
The course runs live via Zoom, not as a recording. There are discussions, exercises, and Q&A sessions with the instructors. You get the slides as a PDF for download. Via a Slack community, you can network with other participants before, during, and after the course.
Two formats are offered: a one-day course with seven hours including breaks, or two days with 3.5 hours each. The language of instruction is English. You need a laptop or desktop computer, a stable internet connection, microphone, webcam, and headphones or speakers.
The course is aimed at beginners and career changers in UX, at self-taught individuals with gaps in their knowledge, and at people in other roles. Experienced UX professionals looking for a refresher are also addressed. The course can count as one of five live courses toward the Nielsen Norman Group UX Certification. To do so, you also pass five online exams.
