In the seminar "Fundamentals of Industrial Image Processing" you will learn the approach of industrial image processing. You get an overview of standard problems and solutions and can then assess where custom developments are necessary. I find it sensible that underestimated components such as lighting, feeding, lenses, and data transmission are also covered.
On the first day, the focus is on applications of industrial image processing, both in ongoing production and in robotics. You will learn established methods such as presence inspection, position and location recognition, measurement, barcode and QR code recognition, optical character recognition, and surface inspection. A process model shows you how to structure an image processing task as a chain of feeding, lighting, optics, camera technology, and software.
On the second day, we go into detail: feeding, lighting, optical imaging, image sensors in industrial cameras, and digital interfaces. Afterwards, computer-based evaluation follows, from preprocessing through segmentation and labeling to feature extraction and classification. Finally, trends such as stereo vision and 3D measurement in robotics are covered.
The seminar is aimed at engineers and specialists from manufacturing, automation, and production control. It is also suitable for those working in quality assurance, measurement technology, sensor technology, control systems, or handling technology. The provider does not list any special prior knowledge in image processing as a prerequisite.
The seminar is led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Heckenkamp and Prof. Dr. Thomas Netzsch. Both teach in the Department of Optotechnology and Image Processing at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. At the end, you will receive a certificate of participation.
Practical: You can choose between in-person dates in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Neuss, and Munich, or an online date. Both formats run over two days with a fixed schedule. The first day goes from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the second from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. For the Düsseldorf date in September 2026, the implementation is already guaranteed.
