About this online course

Basic information

The distance learning course starts with the basics of modern networks. You will learn about network types, topologies, and network components, and work on network practice. Afterwards, you will take a closer look at the TCP/IP, IPv4, and IPv6 protocols. This also includes installing virtual machines with VirtualBox.

Because you will later manage heterogeneous networks, you will build a functional client/server network. This uses Windows Server 2025 and Linux. You will set up a Windows domain and manage users centrally in Active Directory. The network services DNS and DHCP are also on the agenda.

A separate section is dedicated to the digitalization, automation, and networking of systems. You will get an introduction to Industry 4.0, technology generations, and value networks. With digitalization, the attack surface also grows. Therefore, the course covers threats and appropriate IT security measures.

In the last part of the course, you implement a small digitalization project. You will receive a Raspberry Pi at no additional cost. You will use it to capture measurement data and visualize it with the Tableau software. Alternatively, you exchange it via the OPC UA data standard.

The course lasts 16 months at approx. 11 hours per week. You can extend it free of charge by 9 months. It can also be done faster; in that case, your study advisor will adjust the study plan individually. The total course fee remains unchanged.
