The "Spanish Standard Course" is the group course offered by the Instituto Cervantes for anyone who wants to learn Spanish or improve their level. You learn in a fixed group and work your way through levels A1 to C1. The levels are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
In class, you combine active skills such as speaking and writing with receptive skills such as listening and reading. You learn grammar and vocabulary using a communicative approach so that you can directly apply what you have learned in conversation.
The courses usually start at the beginning of each quarter in January, April, July and October. You can choose between two formats. Weekly classes run for 10 weeks with one session per week, while the compact format runs for 5 weeks with two sessions per week. Each session lasts 2.5 hours.
You will be taught by academically trained native-speaking teachers from Spain and Latin America. They have undergone special training in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. The classes are conducted entirely in Spanish, and groups are deliberately kept small with 5 to 11 participants.
The course is suitable for absolute beginners as well as advanced learners who want to systematically develop their language level further. Before registering, you can take a free placement test. It will give you a recommendation for the appropriate level.
The classes take place live via Zoom. You will receive the access link no later than 24 hours before the course starts. Usually, a stable internet connection and an up-to-date browser are sufficient; software installation is generally not required.
After completing the course, you will receive a certificate of successful participation free of charge. For a processing fee, you can also request a certificate with a detailed description of the course content.
